Fractional laser resurfacing is a relatively new method of skin rejuvenation in which the laser beam is fractioned so that the targeted areas of the skin are precisely spaced out at a microscopic level, leaving some skin perfectly intact while other zones are heat treated. The effect is visually comparable to the pixels in digital images; at tiny spots of treated new skin replace the old. The untreated areas maintain the tissue’s stability for quicker recovery. New collagen is laid down over a period of months. The result is improved fine lines and the reduction of acne scaring. Generally these treatments are performed in a series of 3-6 treatments. Dr. Hodge uses a 1540nm Icon laser.
